Knitting needles or a fine 1.25 cm crochet hook<\/li>\n
1 mm cotton yarn<\/li>\n
2.5 mm needle<\/li>\n
Metal clasps for the clasp<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Main steps for crocheting the purse<\/b>:<\/p>\n
1. <\/b>Make the starting circle<\/b>, which is usually called the magic ring<\/i>. <\/b>Here\u2019s a video by an expert<\/a> and here\u2019s a much less professional one, made by me<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Make a circle<\/b> with the yarn around your index finger. The easiest way is to have the short end (the end of the yarn that\u2019s loose and not attached to the ball) facing forwards and the long end (the one attached to the ball) facing backwards. You can also hold the long end between your ring finger and little finger to make the task easier.<\/li>\n
From there, start by making a first stitch, which is similar to the one used to begin a chain stitch<\/i><\/b> and marks the start of a single crochet<\/i><\/b>.<\/li>\n
Insert the hook into the loop; pick up some yarn (always take yarn from the long end); pull it through the loop; and you\u2019ll be left with a loop of yarn on your hook.<\/li>\n
Pick up some more yarn with the hook and pass the hook (hooking this second piece of yarn with the metal tip of the hook) through the first loop.<\/li>\n
You\u2019ve now made your starting stitch.<\/li>\n
To make the coin purse, we\u2019ll work several rounds of single crochet stitches around that initial circle. Let\u2019s see how to do it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

2. <\/b>In the first round<\/b>, work six single crochets onto the thread of the magic ring:<\/p>\n

To make the first single crochet<\/i><\/b>, also known as single stitch<\/i><\/b>, on your initial circle of thread, repeat what we\u2019ve just done, bearing in mind that you must crochet both into the thread of the circle and into the short end. In this short video, I\u2019ll try to show you<\/a> how to make those first single crochets.<\/li>\n
Insert the hook into the ring; pick up a loop of yarn (you must always pick up yarn from the long end); pull it through the ring; and you\u2019ll be left with a loop of yarn on your hook.<\/li>\n
Pick up another loop of yarn with the hook and pass the hook through the first loop<\/li>\n
You now have your first single crochet in your starting loop.<\/li>\n
And you carry on making single crochet stitches.<\/li>\n
Once you\u2019ve made the 6 single crochet stitches<\/b>, pull the yarn tight and close the circle. This completes the first round and, if you look closely, you\u2019ll see that the circle is made up of six stitches, which in turn form the base on which we\u2019ll work the next round; that\u2019s why they\u2019re also called base stitches<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

3. <\/b>In the second round<\/b>, you need to work an increase in each stitch of the previous round:<\/p>\n

Pass the hook under the first loop, hook both strands, and work a single crochet.<\/li>\n
Ideally, you should use a marker on the first stitch of each round<\/b> to mark it, so that it\u2019s easier to tell when you\u2019ve reached the end of that round. If you don\u2019t mark it, as this is a circular piece, it\u2019s easy to miss the end. You can use a special crochet marker or, if you don\u2019t have one, a simple paper clip.<\/li>\n
And in that very same stitch, I work another single crochet, which is what is known as an increase<\/i><\/b>.<\/li>\n
This way, I\u2019ll finish this second round with 12 base stitches<\/b>, as I\u2019ll have worked two single crochets into each stitch of the first round.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

4. <\/b>In the third round<\/b>, follow this pattern:<\/p>\n

Start with a single crochet and mark the stitch.<\/li>\n
In the second stitch, work a single crochet and an increase.<\/li>\n

The sequence<\/strong> will therefore be four half double crochets; followed by a half double crochet and an increase<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
Continue in this manner until the end, finishing with 36 base stitches<\/b>.<\/li>\n
Now check to see if your work fits snugly into the metal clasp. Once you have reached the desired diameter, stop working further rounds.<\/li>\n
If the mouthpiece is still larger than the work, carry on making more rounds:\n

The seventh<\/b> round would have 42<\/strong> base stitches (sequence: five half-stitches; followed by a half-stitch and an increase).<\/li>\n

8. <\/b>From here on, work in a spiral, stitch by stitch<\/b>, and work as many rounds in height as you wish (between 11 and 15 would be ideal for this type of spout). Then fasten off the work and cut the yarn. Then, using a needle, tuck away the remaining piece of yarn (the end<\/i> is tucked away).<\/p>\n

9. <\/b>Finally, sew the piece to the metal clasp<\/b> using thick yarn and a needle that is thick enough to accommodate the thick yarn yet fine enough to fit through the metal holes in the circular ring of the metal clasp. Sew using a back stitch or a reverse stitch, whichever you prefer. And that\u2019s it! You can also, if you wish, add a lining<\/b> before sewing the purse to the clasp.<\/p>\n

<\/span>B. How to make a crocheted strap to attach to the purse<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n
Main steps for crocheting the strap<\/b> that will allow you to wear the purse attached to your wrist:<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
1.<\/strong> Make a chain<\/i><\/b> of 60 stitches.<\/p>\n
\n
Form a circle and thread the yarn through it. This creates a loop. Insert the crochet hook into the loop. Pull the yarn through and tighten it around the hook.<\/li>\n
Pass the hook under the yarn, hook it, and pull it through the loop of the previous stitch.<\/li>\n
Continue repeating this process as many times as the pattern specifies \u2013 in this case, 60 times.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
<\/p>\n
2.<\/strong> Work four rounds of single crochet<\/i><\/b>. Although this is the stitch used to make the purse, I\u2019ll explain in detail here once again how to make a single crochet:<\/p>\n

Pick up a loop of yarn on the crochet hook and pull it through the next stitch.<\/li>\n
You\u2019ll now have two loops on the hook.<\/li>\n
Pick up the yarn again and pull it through the two loops on the hook.<\/li>\n
You\u2019ll be left with a single loop on the hook. That\u2019s the single crochet done!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

3.<\/strong> Work four rounds of half double crochet<\/i><\/b>, joining the last row to the initial chain. The following explains how to make a half double crochet:<\/p>\n

Make two starting chain stitches, which will count as the first half double crochet.<\/li>\n
Pick up the yarn, i.e. make a loop.<\/li>\n
Insert the hook into the third chain stitch from where the hook is currently positioned.<\/li>\n
You now have three loops on your hook.<\/li>\n
Pick up the yarn again and pull it through all three loops on the hook at the same time \u2013 and that\u2019s it!<\/li>\n
Repeat this sticht until the end of that round; and work four rounds with this same stitch.<\/li>\n
Finally, join the last row to the initial chain so you create a long, circular crochet strip<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

4.<\/strong> Sew the two ends of this long, circular crocheted strip to the closed metal tab that is usually found on the metal clasp of coin purses.<\/p>\n
